Luton Council: Good Business Charter Accreditation

Luton Council is proud to be accredited by the Good Business Charter, a national standard that recognises organisations committed to responsible business practices. This accreditation reflects our values as a local authority and our commitment to fairness, transparency and ethical leadership in how we work with our staff, suppliers and communities. It also strengthens our ambition to build a more inclusive, sustainable and locally rooted economy.

The Good Business Charter is a straightforward accreditation that measures organisations against ten principles of responsible business. These include:

These principles are not simply administrative standards. They represent a culture of doing business that puts people and place before profit. The Charter’s aim is to help create a fairer society by encouraging organisations to pay a fair wage for a fair day’s work and to pay their UK taxes not only in accordance with, but in the spirit of national legislation. This ensures that vital public revenue is reinvested into education, healthcare, transport and other essential services, benefiting both current and future generations.

Our accreditation under the Good Business Charter complements and reinforces our existing commitments under Luton 2040 Vision, the Luton Economy Growth Strategy, our Marmot Town status and our Community Wealth Building approach to a more inclusive economy. The Charter supports our vision of a town built on fairness, opportunity and shared prosperity, where no one lives in poverty and everyone can thrive. It aligns with our efforts to create the conditions for inclusive economic growth, reduce health inequalities and ensure that economic power is shared more widely across our town.

We encourage other employers in Luton to explore the Good Business Charter and consider joining us in raising the bar for responsible business.

By adopting the Charter, you will be joining a growing movement of organisations committed to building a fairer economy, one that works for workers, communities and future generations.
